The Full Story

Welcome to Agra, the city of the iconic Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Agra, located on the banks of the Yamuna River, is not only home to the Taj Mahal but also a treasure trove of historical and cultural landmarks.

Your journey in Agra will start with a visit to the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the epitome of Mughal architecture. The majestic structure, built in the 17th century by Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, is a sight to behold. Marvel at the intricate marble carvings, the sparkling fountains, and the serene reflection pools that surround the monument. The Taj Mahal looks stunning at any time of day, but a visit at sunrise or sunset is especially recommended to witness the changing colors of the monument.

Apart from the Taj Mahal, Agra is also home to other notable landmarks such as the Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 16th century, the fort is a stunning blend of Mughal and Hindu architecture and is a testament to the grandeur of the Mughal Empire.

If you're interested in history, a visit to Fatehpur Sikri is a must-do. This ancient city, located 40 km from Agra, was built in the 16th century by Emperor Akbar and is a blend of Islamic, Hindu, and Jain architecture.

Agra is also famous for its local cuisine, especially the Mughlai cuisine, which is a mix of rich spices and aromatic flavors. Indulge in some delicious kebabs, biryanis, and other mouth-watering dishes at any of the town's many restaurants and street food stalls.

As you explore the city, you'll also come across various local markets.
